A magnificent and exceptionally rare pair of late 19th century French concrete statues depicting Zeus and Poseidon — the supreme deities of the Greek pantheon rendered with dramatic sculptural ambition and neoclassical grandeur. Each figure is portrayed with the heroic musculature, commanding posture, and divine authority befitting the king of the gods and the lord of the seas, executed with a confident naturalism and expressive detail that speaks to a sculptor deeply versed in the classical tradition. The concrete has weathered to a beautifully aged stone-like patina — mottled, textured, and luminous — lending each figure the gravitas and timeless presence of far older works in marble or bronze. Monumental in scale and breathtaking in presence, this pair makes an unforgettable statement flanking a grand entrance, anchoring a formal garden, commanding a courtyard, or as the centerpiece of a serious sculpture collection. Sourced from France, an extraordinary and virtually irreplaceable pair of late 19th century French neoclassical decorative sculpture at its most ambitious and impressive.
